Why Would You Refer Your Competitor?

I often think about the creation of the Cerritos Auto Mall and wondered initially why all brands of auto dealers would locate themselves within a few city blocks? After years of its tremendous success I realize that there are distinct differences between the various brands that will resonate with some buyers and not with others. By locating them all so close together it becomes the Mecca for buyers far and wide. All of the brands thrive from these growing numbers in general.

At Omnibeat, we recently received a referral from an existing client, Evelyn Zohlen of Inspired Financial (www.inspiredfinancial.biz). Her firm specializes in helping ‘Women in Transition’ with their financial needs for a brighter future. Evelyn referred to us Mary Harris of Harris Financial Advisors Inc. who just so happens to also cater to helping ‘Women in Transition’ as well. In the financial advisory world both firms are very focused on who their Ideal Client is. Not that they don’t help others but ‘Women in Transition’ is the sweet spot for both of them. I was very flattered to receive this referral and we are working hard to elevate the online presence for both of them.

So why would you refer your competition? I know that they are in two geographic areas of Huntington Beach and Torrance respectively, but I was still curious. I asked Evelyn this and she responded “There is room for all of us to grow.” Evelyn felt very strongly about “Doing the right thing” and she felt that Mary was in need of a more robust online presence and Omnibeat could be the solution. I found out even a little more. Evelyn, Mary and other female leaders of wealth management firms have a group formed to support each other and the needs of ‘Women in Transition.’ Helping your potential competition can be a boost to yourself when you are clear about where your sweet spot is.
