February 28th, 2017 Posted by OmniTalk No Comment yet

A search for “VALENTINE’S DAY GIFTS, 2017” quickly finds 135 million results. Wow! That’s a lot of love and a lot of effort to impress.

In a story that ran in the Press-Telegram February 13, 2017, “Sales of Valentine’s Day cards are expected to slide 5.9 percent this year as fewer people buy cards for sweethearts and millennials opt for experiences over material items, a market research analyst said this week.” http://www.presstelegram.com/lifestyle/20170213/are-consumers-falling-out-of-love-with-valentines-day-cards

Let’s take a look at Google and see where the searches were headed for Valentine’s Day this year.

The 2017 Valentine’s Day Shopping Results

Cards still took the lead—a huge lead of 721,000 searches–with almost seven times as many results as Valentine’s Day Candy at 108,000. The more specific sweet of choice for sweethearts, CHOCOLATE, earned a little less than 304,000 searches. Valentine’s Day is deeply rooted in sending messages and so it seems fitting that the cards should be the number one search. Around the world Valentine’s Day is celebrated in various ways. In some countries, the tradition is to send anonymous cards. Chocolate plays a part too, especially in Japan, where on February 14 women instigate the love connections by giving homemade chocolate. Men return the favor a whole month later White Day when they give women white chocolate. https://worldstrides.com/2017/02/6-valentines-day-traditions-around-the-world/ Of course, where love blooms, so do flowers. Fresh blossoms ranked quite well with 163,000 searches.

Tiffany or Travelocity?

Even though “travel” and “getaways” were searched often, “jewelry” was more popular, and more lasting. Remember that, gentlemen. Better yet, when you pack your bag for that weekend getaway, make sure you include a bangle or other bling to give her some bragging rights.

Setting Your Searches for Success

Let me just point out again how important the quotes are around your “Subject.” Without those, Google finds the searches for those words in any combination, and not always used together. Hone your searches by using those quotes, it does make a difference.

However you celebrated love in February, we hope you appreciated your loved ones with all your heart. Now it’s time for shamrocks!
