Instagram for Lawyers

A lawyer is one of the 50 most popular jobs in America with around half a million people estimated to be a working law professional. A lawyer will always be in demand by a client and a lawyer will always be available – the only problem is linking the two. Social media is a great place for lawyers to advertise as many people will stumble across a lawyer’s ad and simultaneously have a need for assistance. We believe that Instagram is an ideal location for lawyers to market their service and, if used correctly, can greatly benefit a lawyer and his or her business.

InstagramGetting Started

Instagram all starts with your username and, like any business, your username should reflect who you are and the services you provide. For example, if your name is Sarah Smith and your practice is law then your name should not be @sarah123 but rather @sarahsmithlaw. You should also choose a profile picture that reflects you as a professional and not as another random person on Instagram. Finally, your bio should clearly state your name, profession, purpose, website link, and any other crucial information.

Getting Yourself Out There

An Instagram is pointless without a following so one of the first things you should do is get followers. You can get followers through your website if you post a link to your page through a social media button. You can also publicize your new Instagram by emailing current and previous clients to help spread the word. Finally, you should follow friends and family to help remind them of your services and hope they can recommend your service to any mutual friends.

Eat. Sleep. Law.Posting Content

You should tailor your Instagram posts to your followers as well as your target audience. You can start by posting pictures of you, your office, and your work to convey your practice and possible benefit to followers. You should try to filter in funnier, entertaining posts to keep your followers and cause people to enjoy following you. One of the ways to simultaneously post entertaining content and market your practice is through Instagram’s common hashtags like #throwbackthursday and #flashbackfriday. These simple hashtags are at the heart of Instagram and will allow you to market and be enjoyable to follow. Thus, you should base your posts around your practice and followers, but whatever your targeted audience you should ensure that you are likeable and not suffocating your followers.

Expanding Your Following

Once you have your feet on the ground and you’re frequently posting, then you should try to reach out more and gain more followers. You will likely gain more followers over time as people come to stumble upon your page, but if you want to jumpstart the trend then you should try following more people and using hashtags. Hashtags can be searched by anyone and so using law related hashtags will welcome customers. However, following a lot of potential customers is surely the best way to gain new followers. Try finding a page similar to your own and go through their followers and follow a majority of them. Odds are these people will follow you back and in turn be subject to your marketing.

The best marketing is that which customers cannot tell is marketing. Instagram is the perfect place for not just lawyers but all professions. Instagram allows customers to constantly see your posts which will in turn lead them to subconsciously link your practice with their needs. A lawyer is a service that is demanded on occasion rather than regularly, so you want to ensure you are the first lawyer that comes to mind when customers address their need. This is why Instagram is a perfect marketing tool for lawyers.
